Sad news has reached us from Denmark:
Anfred Pedersen, the grand old man of floristics in Denmark, is dead.
He became a very important person in our project.
He had determined views on various topics: he did not always agree with the editors, and he never accepted some of the basic principles. However, his input lead to many fruitful discussions.
He was a very active reviewer of the first volumes of Flora Nordica, which were greatly improved thanks to him: with his broad experience from the field he could provide precise habitat information for most taxa native to Denmark.
He published many works in botany. He contributed to the knowledge of the dunes, marine forelands and wetlands of the Waddensea coast of southwest Jutland; above all he was one of the major authors in the series of TBU reports, summarizing the distribution of Danish plants.
Anfred was buried in Sønderho Kirkegård, Fanø (18. June 2004).
The well-known botanical illustrator Bent Johnsen, whose latest great work was the watercolour illustrations of endemic plants from Peloponnesos (Greece), died in May.
Bent Johnsen was also a very important person for Flora Nordica; he made our fine logotype, with the stylized Cornus suecica.
